International Musical Star Trombone Shorty Rocks Global Recess in Concert!!!

New Orleans musician, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews, performed in Philly Friday night wearing Global Recess! Trombone Shorty headlined World Café Live’s 5th Anniversary Celebration with his band Orleans Avenue. Shorty wore a Global Recess “Stop Human Trafficking” v-neck t-shirt during his performance in front of a crowd of hundreds.

Shorty is a New Orleans musical prodigy and a member of a musical family. He was born and raised in the Treme neighborhood, which is also the birthplace of Louis Armstrong. By the time he was 12 Shorty was a professional working musician mesmerizing stars such as U2's Bono. He has shared the stage with legends such as Lenny Kravitz, Wynton Marsalis, U2 and Norah Jones. Shorty's current style fuses jazz, funk, hip hop and rock with brass instrumentation that astounds fans of all ages, races and creeds. Currently touring with his band Orleans Avenue, Shorty continues to bring New Orleans flavor and “supafunkrock” to fans the world over.

Fatal Promises

Yesterday I went to a screening of the film, Fatal Promises. (http://fatalpromises.com/)
Fatal Promises is an in-depth look into the scourge of Human Trafficking. Through personal stories of victims of trafficking and interviews with politicians, non-governmental organizations and activists, Fatal Promises cleverly juxtaposes the brutal realities of Human Trafficking suffered by victims and battled by activists, with the hollow rhetoric of politicians and pundits who claim to be making significant strides in combating this horrific crime against humanity. Fatal Promises features interviews with Kevin Bales, Gloria Steinman, Emma Thompson and others.
It was a very powerful documentary that gave the viewer a glimpse into the stories of victims of trafficking, both men and women. These victims told their stories of being given false promises for a better life, only to be trapped, sexually exploited, and forced into labor. The women were raped several times a week, forced to work in adult men’s clubs, and forced to sleep with multiple men. If they didn’t meet financial goals, they were abused or murdered. The men also suffer, being forced into harsh labor in unbearable living conditions with no food for days at a time.
This is a harsh but true reality. This illegal and inhumane activity MUST BE STOPPED.

For every "Stop Human Trafficking" T-shirt or tank you buy, Global Recess will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Project to End Human Trafficking (PEHT). PEHT's work includes direct service to victims, educational outreach, anti-trafficking coalition building as well as collaborations with other national and international anti-trafficking organizations.

Emarie attends the Marie Claire and Lifetime Television event celebrating “Project Runway” Season 6 last week. The event was held in New York September 17 and was sponsored by L’oreal Paris, Garnier, Miramax Films as well as The Weistein Company, who produced the show.

Our mission is simple--To spread global responsibility through fashion. Global Recess builds awareness and promotes action toward global issues that are often overlooked or unheard of, including but not limited to: human trafficking, the military use of children, and poverty. Global Recess t-shirt designs tell stories and are inspired by abstract art. Each issue has its own unique design, yet maintains a cohesive brand identity. A portion of the proceeds of each sale is donated to a selected organization combating that specific issue, thus fostering a “Global Recess.” Each shirt’s packaging includes a short description of the issue it is combating and information regarding the charitable organization receiving the proceeds.

Global Recess was founded in 2009 by model/entrepreneur Erica "Emarie" Wiltz. Her international travels as a model exposed her to many crises that wreak havoc on the lives of people they affect and inspired her to take action and do her part. Emarie combined two of her passions--fashion and being of service to others--to create Global Recess, “Fashion for Humanity."
